Welcome to Northland Spars and Rigging in The Bay of Islands

Most locals and many offshore cruisers will be familiar with Northland Spars and Rigging (NSR) – located across the parking lot from the Cruising Club in Opua.

We’ve been a fixture in Opua since 2000 and a supporter of the OCC for just as long. Anyone who has raced with rigger Rob will know his enthusiasm for sailing and boats whether he’s working on the docks or racing on his Farr 727, Frantic. He’s not the only one: many of the team here are keen boaters with lots of local and offshore miles and on-the-water experience between us.

The Bay of Islands is a hotbed of keen local sailors, and also an established port of call for offshore sailors.

Over 400 cruising boats clear customs and immigration every year in Opua and many become customers for NSR. As a result we see as much variety of yachts and their rigging as any other rigging company in the world.

Northland Spars & Rigging

NSR can supply all of your rigging and hardware needs: cordage, splicing, dock lines, hardware, and of course all things to do with standing rigging, including professional rig checks and reports which can set your mind – and your insurance company’s – at ease.

Northland Spars and Rigging’s partner company, NSR Alloy Solutions, specialises in boatbuilding and metal fabrication and has certified Naval Architect Alan Walker on staff.

What this means to our customers is that Northland Spars and Rigging customers is that NSR Alloy Solutions has a superbly equipped metal fabrication shop with a Naval Architect, skilled alloy and stainless welders, fabricators, and engineers on site – a handy bonus on top of the friendly and professional rigging services we’ve been offering for years.
